Rosie Hunter began her classical vocal studies at the age of 8. After starting her collegiate education as an Opera major, Rosie switched lanes to focus on Musical Theater. She holds a Bachelors of Music degree with a concentration in Musical Theater from the University of Southern Maine. After graduation she attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City for further studies before moving to Salem, MA to begin performing in Greater Boston & New England.
Rosie is a member of the professional actors union, Actors’ Equity. She has performed in 8 professional shows and over 25 fully staged productions, including “She Loves Me” at the Tony Award Winning Huntington Theatre Company in Boston, MA and prestigious Williamstown Theatre Festival (Woman 2/Ensemble). Rosie was a performance intern at Maine State Music Theater where she performed in Brigadoon (soloist/Ensemble), Follies (Young Hattie), Kiss Me, Kate (Wardrobe Lady/Ensemble), The Adventures of Young Tom Edison (Ezra), and The Adventures of Peter Rabbit (Peter ). Some of Rosie’s other favorite roles are Sally (Cabaret/USM), Sarah (Company/USM, IRNE Nominee), Woman 1 (Songs For A New World/USM), June (Chicago/Portland Players), Hair Hag/Fantine U/S (Les Miserable/Maine State Music Theater). Rosie has performed as a pops soloist for The Hillyer Festival Orchestra and Northshore Philharmonic, and as a vocal soloist for chorale and master classes on numerous occasions. In 2005 Rosie was was selected by Broadway Casting Director Jay Binder as the “Best in Musical Theater” winner at the Best New Talent Awards in Los Angeles, California.
Prior to living in Illinois, Mrs. Hunter lived abroad in Japan with her family (her husband is a military musician) where she started Spotlight Vocal Studio. The studio had 15 voice students ages 7-55, as well as 15 elementary school-aged children involved in her acting/scene study class. Additionally in Japan, Rosie Vocal Directed Hairspray Jr. and Mulan Jr. at Tokyo International Players while in Japan. Starting in 2022, she became the Choir Director at Carl Sandburg Middle School in Mundelein where she also Vocal Directs for their fully staged musicals, most recently Newsies, Jr. In 2023 Rosie reopened Spotlight Vocal Studio after much demand in the Northshore area. She is a proud member of the International Association of Teachers of Singing and the International Thespian Society.
Rosie is represented by BMG Chicago. She took a hiatus from performing from 2020-2023, however she is now actively submitting herself again for projects in the greater Chicago area. While in Chicago she has been in commercial print work, featured background on “Empire,” “Proven Innocent,” and “Utopia” on Amazon, and had lead and supporting roles in 2 industrial films.
